When lies no longer matter
Obama's ponderous State of the Union lecture was the unofficial start of his re-election campaign. It was also chock full of rhetoric, lies, and divisiveness -- just as the previous three years of his first and only presidential term. His credibility tank is empty.
Last evening, the nation's interest turned to Obama's State of the Union (SOTU) address. Those looking for a positive vision and fresh, workable solutions to the country's myriad problems were sorely disappointed.
What the American people got instead was a SOTU re-run heavily tinged with partisan palaver.
Tuesday's tedious gab fest was not about the union, it was all about the State of Obama as he egregiously used SOTU as a kick-start for his re-election campaign. Worst of all, however, was Obama's non-stop parrying with reality.
Surely he knew he was repeatedly lying to the American people -- didn't he? Surely he must have known that his mistreatment of the truth was nothing less than a nationally-televised illustration of his failed presidency -- mustn't he? Of course, but Obama has exhausted his supply of magic beans. Lies, divisiveness, and strife are all that are left.
This was no SOTU. From inviting Warren Buffett's secretary as some sort of prop "victim" to the last word uttered, Obama made a mockery of yet another Constitution-based America tradition. It was the State of Class Warfare and Win at All Costs address.
The foundation lie
In order to spare readers the tedium of wading through three years' worth of Obama lies on taxes, Obamacare, wealth redistribution, government expropriation of business, race-baiting, union payola, crony capitalism, etc., they will not be addressed. Most of the other SOTU lies will be brilliantly analyzed elsewhere. But we really need to look at one of Obama's first lies, already hatched soon after the 2008 election: The Stimulus.
In a a 57-page memo written by economist Lawrence Summers in December 2008 and uncovered by The New Yorker's Ryan Lizza, we now know how disingenuous Obama can be, and was. Summers' memo details how the Democrat-controlled Congress passed the "stimulus" at Obama's behest. Yet it reveals more, especially this tidbit:
Obama's nearly trillion-dollar expenditure scheme was primarily devised to implement his regime's political agenda, not fix a damaged economy. This is what Commentary Magazine's Jonathan S. Tobin wrote:
"The Summers memo is clear evidence that much of the rhetoric put forward by the administration and allies was patent hogwash. The point of the stimulus was to keep campaign promises about making sure federal dollars flowed to pet projects, especially on the energy sector (think Solyndra), not the vaunted benefits to the economy that were promised."
This is not the act of a truthful, honorable man nor are those traits evident in his allies and handlers. Yet the Obama SOTU lecture probably excited a portion of his base. However, the Summers memo alone is scathing evidence enough that Obama doesn't simply deserve to lose his job; He deserves no less than to undergo an impeachment hearing for violating his fiduciary duties and oath of office.
Obama will give his very next State of Obama address from Chicago.
