American Reclamation
With the next sunrise, the composition of the 112th Congress will have been settled. Now the long and arduous struggle for national recovery begins; Patience, fortitude, and courage are required. When patience wears thin, remember the 111th Congress - its arrogance, cowardice, and lawlessness - and the unconscionable harm it wrought.
Legendary American illustrator Walt Kelly, in his popular comic strip Pogo, bluntly surmised our American penchant for creating and confounding our own problems with this famous 1970 gem: "We have met the enemy and he is us!".
Indeed.
We Americans were the ones who, in a 2006 collective fit of pique, voted out the GOP. Remember when a jubilant Nancy Pelosi, fresh on the heels of a Democrat sweep of Congress, snidely praised voters for "thinking" and "saying no to ideology?" As if that wasn't bad enough, we compounded our error by repeating it in 2008, but soured the pot further by tossing in the insidious Obama regime. We know the results, and the blame lies squarely at our feet. We lost the economy, freedom, jobs, prestige, and the American spirit.
It matters not that Obama and the disingenuous Democrat Congress gained power portrayed by handlers and state-run media as unifiers who lived by a bipartisan credo. Throughout this disgraceful four-year charade, we inherently trusting, decent, and gullible Americans believed the spin and either ignored or were not aware of the darker realities that were slowly surfacing from alternative news sources. We are now paying for this gross lapse of judgment. Our nation is paying. We have a real mess to clean up and several years' hard work before us.
Honor
The nation and the American people must now bear the burden. Much of our gullibility, however, has been blessedly bludgeoned away and a new Congress will soon be in session. It is in those halls where the struggle for national reclamation will begin and be borne by those we elected to serve.
On the home front, it is our mission to stay vigilant and constantly remind those who serve why we placed our trust in them. In order to repair all that is now wrong in America so that our children never suffer under a burden of which they had no part, we can no longer sit back and pretend ignorance or innocence. We must stay informed and engaged, and never again allow a biased media to overwhelm common sense.
By the same token, each Member of the United States Congress must realize that legislators of both political parties have either ignored or defied constitutional limits on their powers. They must understand that this will no longer be tolerated. Each Member who has sworn to uphold, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States of America will be held accountable. To do any less is treasonous; to ignore or act in defiance of the wishes of the American people is dishonorable.
Commitment
Most of the American voting public understand the daunting tasks set before the 112th Congress. Most of the electorate appreciate the degree and severity of all the harm forced upon the nation, and all that must be either undone or corrected. We realize that it will take several years to recover from the ravages of the past four years.
We also know that the 112th Congress must wage its struggle whilst battling a hostile Executive, unions and other leftist special-interest groups, and an unforgiving state-run media propaganda machine. All the American people ask is that our representatives keep their oaths of office, promises to the people, stand by their principles, and not fall prey to the lure of entitlement, "accommodation," and political back-scratching. If they do, we will stand with them until the next round of house cleaning in 2012.
Let the reclamation of America begin.
