That's Why They Play The Game
At first glance, little-known Marco Rubio's challenge against highly popular and sitting Governor Charlie Crist in the Florida Republican Senate primary seemed as ludicrous as it was daunting. My, how things have changed.
This wasn't supposed to happen. Governor Charley Crist was supposed to bury Marco Rubio in an August, 2009 Florida Republican primary election for the U.S. Senate seat vacated by the retiring Senator Mel Martinez. After all, the seat was being safe-guarded and kept snuggly warm by Crist appointee and personal friend George LeMieux. What could go wrong?
Crist had it all. A popular sitting governor boasting high approval ratings, state-wide name recognition, support of state and national Republican political machines, and a $6 million war chest. His opponent? A barely-known former state representative with limited financial resources, negligible support from the political establishment, and marginal Florida name recognition.
However, there are no sure things in life and yes, Davids occasionally slay Goliaths. We all now know of the Tea Party emergence, Crist's opportunistic coat-tailing of Obama, and his flip-flopping on issues which the American majority and conservatives hold dear. Republicans, conservatives, and moderates revolted; Crist plummeted from a 30-point primary lead over Marco Rubio to a 30-point deficit. He then did what so many valueless career opportunists do - he quit the Republican Party and decided to run as an Independent - and in the process handed Rubio the Republican nomination.
This was the Tea Party Movement's first significant victory of 2010.
The Rubio way
Today, just 29 day before Election Day, it is no secret that Americans of every political stripe - even many who voted for Obama - are angry at what they see happening to their country. Many political analysts believe this angst, coupled with Marco Rubio's unwavering, positive, conservative message is why he is now favored to win the senatorial election over Crist and Democrat Kendrick Meek.
The latest Quinnipiac University Poll of likely voters shows Rubio 46 percent, Crist 33 percent, and Meek 18 percent. The latest Rasmussen Poll of likely voters has Rubio at 41 percent, Crist 30 percent, and Meek 21 percent. Barring an October surprise of gargantuan proportions, Rasmussen believes Rubio's lead will only increase.
How did he do it? By conveying his heart-felt core beliefs and conviction in the greatness of America, her people, and the constitutional rule of law.
Clear definition
Marco Rubio walks, talks, lives, and breathes conservatism and its First Principles, the same principles that guided the Founders. But what strikes his audiences the most is his unabashed love of the United States of America. The son of poor but industrious and grateful Cuban exiles from Castro's island prison, Rubio never fails to laud the God-given freedoms and resulting greatness which exemplifies America - and the opportunity She offers to the oppressed of the world.
Since the early days of his campaign, Rubio's message has not wavered or varied, and it has obviously resonated with a majority of Florida's likely voters. He uses no notes or teleprompters when he speaks because none are necessary when he shares his beliefs, beliefs based upon the unshakable principles by which he has lived his life.
Americans have become greatly upset with those who conveniently set aside their alleged principles whenever it is politically expedient, and Floridians are no different from their fellow citizens. The contrast could not be starker between Marco Rubio - running for office to help undo the grievous harm done to America by the current sociofascist regime - when weighed against: 1) Charlie Crist, career politician who is only running to be someone and will say anything to win; and 2) Kendrick Meek, leftist darling of the Obama regime and Democrat Congress that are giddily busy destroying America.
As noted earlier, there are no sure things in life but it's becoming more certain each day that Florida's next Senator will be go by the name of Rubio.
