O'Donnell Exposes GOP Elites
Win or lose, newly-minted Delaware senatorial candidate Christine O'Donnell is exposing the hypocrisy of the Establishment GOP. As to the GOP's lack of support, she vows to fight on and win the election without them.
It seems ages ago when the New York State Republican Party backed an ultra-radical leftist, Dede Scozzafava, against a long-shot conservative Republican Doug Hoffman for the NY D-23 House seat. Why? Because GOP elitists figured that a congressional member who would vote with them at least some of the time would be better than supporting a candidate who couldn't win.
Really? Do you think that if the GOP had initially thrown every bit of their support behind Hoffman instead of leftist Scozzafava, or waiting to do so until the last week of the campaign that he wouldn't have won? In a Republican-leaning District?
We know how it turned out in November of 2009. Scozzafava withdrew from the race and supported the Democrat, and Tea Party support from Sarah Palin and Fred Thompson came too late to turn the tide. Although desperate to return to the political limelight, it seems as though the power-wielding Republicans are unwilling to share party control with anyone who is not of the country club, blue-blood, go-along-to-get-along faction.
Principles versus expedience
Which brings us to Delaware and the just-completed primary between conservative Christine O'Donnell and moderate, fence-sitting Mike Castle. The"This is the same wrong-headed prejudice masquerading as sound political strategy that lost the GOP both Houses of Congress, guaranteed victory for the Obama regime, and assisted in the ruination of the country." GOP establishment went all-out in supporting the aisle-crossing Castle. Why? They did the same with conservative Sharron Angle versus party favorite Sue Lowden in the Nevada primary and conservative Marco Rubio in the first 90 days of his battle with party favorite and vote-for-hire Charlie Crist in the Florida primary. The Establishment GOP picked the wrong horses and stubbornly refused to change its stance. Why?
In simplest terms, the Establishment Republican Party figured that the conservative candidates could not win the general election. Some evoked The Buckley Rule to support their decisions. The RNSC ignored the conservatives, withheld money, endorsements, and advertising, and by doing so abandoned principles for misinterpreted, misguided political expediency.
Yet this is the same wrong-headed prejudice masquerading as sound political strategy that lost the GOP both Houses of Congress, guaranteed victory for the Obama regime, and assisted in the ruination of the country. They conveniently forget that the only thing that saved aisle-crosser John McCain from being totally embarrassed by Obama was Sarah Palin - you know, the Sarah Palin America admires but is ridiculed to this day by the Establishment GOP.
GOP is missing the real change
There is no greater defender and promoter of conservatives than the RedState Web log, and they certainly cannot be accused of being "establishment." Yet even RedState's Martin Knight pleaded with his Delaware readers to elect Mike Castle. His reasoned opinions? Christine O'Donnell is not a viable candidate, and the Democrats are planning a vengeful lame duck session. He further added, "Let's be realistic here; states do not abruptly swing from deep Blue to deep Red or vice versa in one go."
Knight's points are valid, but only if one conveniently ignores the can't-win, hopelessly behind, non-viability of Scott Brown or the abrupt swing of Bluest-of-Blue MassachusettsConservatives can win because the 2010 election is different than any in recent history - including the 1994 Congressional Revolution. to Red for Ted Kennedy's Senate seat. With respect to Mr. Knight, a dedicated, strong-willed, on-message candidate can win against heavy odds if given the party's full support and the support of New Media.
The GOP, via Conservatives, can win in November without prostituting principles. Conservatives can win because the 2010 election is different than any in recent history - including the 1994 Congressional Revolution. The Obama Regime and arrogant Democrat Congress have shaken the American Majority to its core. This majority of voting Americans are now angry at what has been forced upon them against their wishes and are fearful of what the ruling sociofascists will do next. The American Majority wants real change, and that includes bouncing from office any two-faced Republicans along with arrogant, disingenuous Democrat statists.
This year's primaries have unequivocally shown that the days are numbered for those whose election promises turn out to be meaningless because they don't have the spine or inclination to stand by principles they invoked to gain election.
2010 pundits more wrong than right
Anecdotal evidence suggests that this year, party affiliations are being discarded by a significant swathe of voters. The Buckley Rule does not apply this year. Hopeless, non-viable Sharron Angle is now even with Harry Reid. Hopeless, non-viable Marco Rubio is now thumping Democrat-lite Charlie Crist and Democrat Kendrick Meek. With the full backing of the Republican Party and full support of New Media, hopeless, non-viable Christine O'Donnell can do the same in Delaware.
It is important to remember that the election is still 47 days away. A great many things can be accomplished in that time. Against all odds and in the last 14 days of the contest, Scott Brown pulled ahead and won in a state where he should not even have bothered to run. Yet unlike Brown, O'Donnell has had to battle not only her Republican primary and Democrat opponents, but the might of the Establishment GOP as well.
For now, one can only imagine what O'Donnell could do if the GOP elites ever stop whining and decide to support her all the way. It's a no-brainer, really - DeMint, Coburn, and the rest of our stalwart conservative Senators get a staunch ally and the GOP can say it won an election.
Hype and Chains for 47 more days.
