Privileged corruption

by BD Pisani ♦ 27 jul 2010

Pelosi once sermonized that "This Congress will be the most transparent and ethical ever." Every member of the Democrat Congress who endorsed that lie is still lying to America, but with heightened impertinence due to their perceived unaccountability.

Privileged corruption

The Autumn elections are looking ominous for the Democrat Party. Democrats know this but figure that with a smidge over three months to go before the Second of November, they will be able to retain Congress by once again conning Americans.

Democrats, in concert with state-run media allies, will attempt to coerce Americans into believing that this regime had nothing to do with the economic meltdown of the United States, its repeated failures in foreign affairs, or its successful revocation of individual freedoms via unstoppable majorities. Which of course is why Obama has begun a multi-state barnstorming tour to deliver carefully-contrived rhetoric with the goal of erasing America's collective memory.

Obama will attempt to tamper with the reality of the past nineteen months, to proclaim it as a time of great rebirth and regeneration. He will attempt to alter substance with words. To Obama, such prattle is merely a tool used to obtain results in any way possible. They are, as he describes, "Just Words."

"Trust me and trust Congress," he will coo. "It could be worse," he will reason. "Enjoy all of the benefits of our Recovery Summer and let us continue to fix the harm caused by the previous administration. Help us finish the job we started."

Staged fantasy. Just words. More lies.

Here is the reality: The Obama regime and Democrat Congress have repeatedly lied to America. Without lying they would never have been elected. The Democrat ruling class has purposely overreached on a broad swath of constitutionally"-- anything of substance you can identify has been lied about by this regime and its servants." debatable issues and rammed a slew of statist legislation past a helpless congressional minority and down the throats of a helpless, disapproving public majority.

Pick any outrage, pick any issue -- congressional felons untouched by law, unfettered rule czars, ObamaCare, bailouts, takeovers, stimulus, amnesty, massive tax increases, transparent Congress, proposed legislation made public, death panels, congressional vote bribery, unwarranted attacks on private citizens and sovereign states, health care rationing, a racist administration, debt, the deficit, erosion of liberty -- anything of substance you can identify has been lied about by this regime and its servants.

What about the economy? There is no good reason to listen to economists any longer. This is no fault of the economists. The Obama regime and Democrat Congress desperately want Americans to"You simply cannot continue to print money, borrow money, and spend money without running up a deficit that is beyond balance or a debt that is beyond payable." believe their economic models and analyses are rational and workable. They are not because they cannot be if the goals include a successful free market economy and economic solvency. It is impossible.

Plainly speaking, it is clear that the Ruling Class and its supporters have a different view of this country than the vast majority of the American people. You simply cannot impose massive personal income and business taxes, massive energy taxes, and massive investment taxes and expect to jump-start a gravely depressed economy. You simply cannot waste vast sums of capital pilfered from the private sector on bloated, government-run wealth distribution schemes, regime expropriations, or corporate takeovers labeled as "stimulus," "health care," or "bailout." You simply cannot continue to print money, borrow money, and spend money without running up a deficit that is beyond balance or a debt that is beyond payable.

If Obama and the Ruling Class feel their calculated programs to greatly increase the size of government are in any way threatened in the upcoming elections, they will attempt whatever is necessary to lop off at the knees any and all who oppose them. There is no better example than the coordinated, concerted effort between the regime and state-run media to falsely stain opponents as racists. They know racism sells to a segment of America; They know there is no worse accusation which can be contrived. They will therefore continue to attack.

As succinctly expressed by essayist David Warren, we have the utterly unpredictable effect of a reckless government vomiting utterly unprecedented volumes of cash, in an utterly arbitrary manner."We are witnessing the massive, systemic corruption that has been proven throughout history to be part and parcel of any statist regime." This creates circumstances in which the citizen or small business owner simply cannot behave rationally, and in which he will almost certainly be punished if he saves (given the inevitable inflation), and punished if he spends (money he desperately needs).

The American people are witnessing the massive, systemic corruption that has been proven throughout history to be part and parcel of any statist regime. Perhaps worse than the corruption, however, are the bureaucracies they have created to regulate all of the details in our private lives. Americans are uncertain about the future and their confidence is shaken. Given that Obama has been proclaimed by his handlers and state-run media to be intellectually superior to all of his predecessors, one must wonder if this is by design.

As you listen to the rhetorical bombast that will most certainly be ramped up within these next few months, fortify yourself with some reality-based balance. Notice your cash-starved state and local governments, empty store fronts around you, and your furloughed or laid-off neighbors. Examine the withholding on your pay stub and increases in utility costs. Pay attention to rising local taxes and fuel, clothing, and food prices. This is the "Recovery Summer" in which the Ruling Class wants you to believe.
