Obama's no-drill leverage

Practical Deepwater Horizon containment and mitigation solutions were and still are ignored by Obama. He is using what now appears to be a managed crisis to ram through energy and "green" legislation with far more adverse, long-term effects than any oil spill.

Today in Louisiana, a unanimously-approved resolution of the state legislature is being promoted by Governor Bobby Jindal. It is a Statewide Day of Prayer for perseverance through the BP oil spill that continues to devastate the country's Gulf Coast region.

Repeatedly thwarted and rebuffed by Washington just as is Arizona in it's illegal alien crisis, past hope for any positive action from the Obama regime, Louisiana has turned in desperation to a spiritual plea for its people, environment, and way of life now threatened with devastation.

While State-run Media has done its man-bites-dog best to sensationalize what could have been -- with timely, effective response and mitigative actions -- a manageable issue, the deplorable consequences of their fixation have now blossomed into reality due to the inept bungling of the federal government. But the word inept is not adequate to describe the regime's performance.

Which naturally begs the questions:

Why did the Obama regime first ignore, posture, pontificate, and drag its feet, then actively impede efforts to manage the spill? Why attempt to ban all offshore drilling? Proscribe the use of oil reclamation barges? Repeatedly refuse 13 serious offers of international expertise and equipment? Refuse to waive the Jones Act? Proscribe Louisiana's sand berm dredging? For that matter, why idle away critical response time partying, playing golf, vacationing, and fund-raising?

Purposeful strategy

There is a rising tide of opinion across America that the aims and actions of the Obama regime and Democrat Congress throughout the oil spill crisis are a direct reflection on the progressive, anti-business, anti-free-market, anti-Constitution ideology of what is now the Democrat Party base. A review of the early chronology of events following the spill certainly indicates that the damage to the coastline and wildlife is far worse than it might have been if the response had been more rapid, expertise-based, and properly orchestrated.

Is it mere coincidence that Obama's oil crisis has suddenly re-inflated the Democrat Party's hope to ram through its abysmal Cap and Tax legislation? After the crashing and burning of the fraudulent 2009 Copenhagen Conference, the Waxman-Markey Bill lost its disingenuous luster. Now, of a sudden, the regime proclaims Cap and Tax to be a moral imperative. That may be, but only if one considers castrating American businesses, guaranteeing more American jobs permanently lost, and impoverishing American citizens an imperative -- it certainly isn't moral.

Flimsy no-drill justification

The Obama regime has made it quite clear that one way or another, it will ensure the total oil-drilling ban lifted by U.S. District Judge Martin Feldman be re-instated. Why? The U.S. will have to import more oil because of lost production in the Gulf. That means transporting more oil in tankers, which historically have accounted for far more oil spillage than well blowouts.

And surely the regime is aware that the newest, most sophisticated floating drill rigs are in greatest demand around the world. They will go where the work is. When or if the Obama moratorium is ever lifted, many of the drilling rigs will have been gone for three to five years -- not six months -- the normal length of drilling contracts. That equates to tens of thousands more Americans out of work for years, an economy already in meltdown getting worse, and an even greater dependence on imported crude.

Is this what Obama wants?

Cui bono?

Thus far, the Obama regime has displayed to the world a highly disconcerting, totally inept effort to respond to, mitigate, and conclude the spill event. Does this stem from Obama's known lack of executive experience -- at any level -- or simply an example of a community organizer's cunning?

Because it doesn't make sense. Obama demands a moratorium on all offshore oil drilling for six months, citing the dangers of "deep water" drilling, then champions a loan to the Brazilian oil company Petrobras for $2 billion to drill the deepest well in history.

Of course it might make a bit of sense if you've invested hundreds of millions of dollars in both Petrobras and POTUS as has George Soros.
