Oily bait and switch

The Left's ridiculous 25-year moratorium on U.S. coastal oil drilling was partially lifted by the Big-Oil-hating Obama regime. Two questions you must ask: Why? Why now?

In a reversal of the radical Left's wrong-headed, decades-long ban on most offshore drilling, the Obama regime announced today that it is allowing limited oil drilling 50 miles off the Virginia coast.

Oourah! Yippee! Huzzah! Let the champagne corks fly! Let all the church bells peal across the land! Let the people rejoice with many fusillade of firearms and bursts of illuminations!

Er, um ... Not so fast, my friends.

If it was President Bush making this announcement -- heck, even if it was Jimmy Carter making this announcement, we Americans would really have something to celebrate. But it is neither Bush nor Carter -- it is Obama. Because the perpetrator is Obama, each and every one of you reading this should have alarm bells going off and be instantly alert for the scam that is certain to follow.

And of course there is one -- a bait and switch of epic proportions. By now you should have learned that when you sniff the air and detect a foul stench, it is emanating from yet another of Obama's socialist schemes to marginalize freedom and weaken the nation.

Rhetorical deceit

The first dirty little secret embedded and unmentioned within Obama's announcement is that his edict keeps the vast majority of America's offshore energy resources off limits. That's right -- no American company will be allowed to lease, explore, or drill where the concentrations of oil are the greatest.

At a time when more than 70 percent of the American people want offshore drilling for promoting American energy freedom, increasing U.S.-owned energy and wealth production, and creating American jobs, Obama is limiting leasing and drilling to the least productive offshore areas.

According to House Republican Leader John Boehner:

"The Obama Administration continues to defy the will of the American people who strongly supported the bipartisan decision of Congress in 2008 to lift the moratorium on offshore drilling not just off the East Coast and in the Gulf of Mexico, but off the Pacific Coast and Alaskan shores as well. Opening up areas off the Virginia coast to offshore production is a positive step, but keeping the Pacific Coast and Alaska, as well as the most promising resources off the Gulf of Mexico, under lock and key makes no sense at a time when gasoline prices are rising and Americans are asking 'Where are the jobs?'"

Ahem. I bet when you first heard the news, you thought the Obama regime was finally going to stop delaying American energy production and start listening to the American people. That will never happen. For as long as these lying, unscrupulous thugs are in power, always -- always -- look for the scheme and the underlying sleaze.

Regulatory deceit

The second dirty little secret is that Obama's Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is poised to mandate a slew of stringent energy regulations that will punish every American who flips on a light switch, drives a car, purchases furniture, food, and clothing, or buys building materials. Anything you purchase will cost considerably more.

Yup. Get ready for a massive national energy tax that will drive up energy and manufacturing costs and destroy jobs in our states and local communities. Oh, and lest ye forget -- Obama's Interior Secretary, Ken Salazar, has been ordered to perform an exhaustive environmental impact assessment on offshore drilling.

Hmm. Lengthy bureaucratic assessment? Can you spell s-t-o-n-e-w-a-l-l? Good luck with that offshore drilling thingy, at least for the next couple of decades.

Political deceit

It should be clear to you that the Obama regime's offshore announcement is also craftily designed to dupe certain wobbly Senate Republicans to climb on board in support of the nation-killing Cap and Tax debacle. A few of that ilk immediately come to mind: Lindsey Graham, Olympia Snowe, [insert your favorite RINO here]. For the sake of political cover, Obama craves bipartisan thievery.

And whether you call it Carbon Cap and Trade or Cap and Tax, it is nothing more than an Enron-like wealth redistribution scam. It is extremely regressive -- it will tax the poor and create huge profits for the carbon-tradeoff wealthy.

Just plain deceit

To gain more control over the American people, it was of paramount importance for Obama and the Democrat Congress to force mandatory Government-run Health Care Rationing upon the nation.

Energy is next on their power grab list. A partial opening of offshore drilling may sound like a good thing, but it is nothing more than a ruse to soften the dual sledgehammer blows of punitive EPA regulations and a massive national energy tax.

Obama's offshore oil drilling demagoguery is simply a ruse to mask yet another of his schemes to ultimately gain more control over the nation's economy, and thus greater control over the very lives of the American people.

Hype and Chains.
