Another statist ruse
Apparently the next"crisis" to serve Obama's statist juggernaut will be the violence being perpetrated by Mexico's drug cartels, both north and south of the border. Democrat Party politicians and anti-gun activists are now using Mexico's plight as the catalyst to violate our Constitution's Second Amendment.
Early this year, The B2 Journal warned of the coming assault on the Second Amendment, statist plans for gun confiscation, and Democrat Representative Bobby Rush's onerous HR 45, Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009.
The B2J also took a hard look at the Mexican drug fiasco, the Merida Initiative, and the potential for the suppression of American liberty. Enter Attorney General Eric Holder.
Obama's pretext
Obama's AG made it very clear in February that gun-related changes would be forthcoming, among them the re-institution of the Democrat Party Gun Ban of 2003, gun show restrictions, and bans on common ammunition.
Holder even went so far as to invite his Mexican counterpart, General Eduardo Medina Mora, on 60 Minutes -- American national television -- so Mora could lecture Americans about their own Constitution. According to Mora:
"The Second Amendment was never designed to arm criminal groups, and especially not foreign criminal groups as it is today."
As if Mora could fathom the true purpose and intent of the Bill of Rights -- protection of the people from their own government -- when we know that many Democrats cannot as well.
We also know from decades of experience that stringent gun laws don't stop American criminals - this has been proven many times over. It does not work in Mexico either, where restrictions are much more stringent. For Obama and Mexico to blame our liberty for a failed war against the drug cartels is itself criminal.
Been there, done that
Years ago, and after Canada severely restricted the gun rights of law-abiding citizens, they saw their metropolitan violent crime rates skyrocket. They also attempted to blame what they termed "lax" American gun laws for the violence. However, clearer heads prevailed in Canada as their own university studies showed this to be a false charge.
The simple fact is that even a total and complete gun ban in the United States will not stop the Mexican drug cartels from arming themselves with whatever armaments they wish. Mexican criminals are being armed with fully-automatic weapons, ammunition, grenade launchers, and anti-tank rockets from sources in Guatemala -- not the United States.
Statist scheme not the answer
The law-abiding citizens of Mexico have little or no firearm rights but that does not stop Mexican criminals from obtaining firearms, just like our more than 30,000 existing gun laws don't stop American criminals.
Socialists who blame American gun owners for Mexico's woes will not stop a single murder, nor will they stem the flow of drugs to addicts in the United States and money to the drug cartels.
Obama's administration and the Democrat Congress know this truth: American laws and American gun owners are not the problem. But as Rahm Emanuel is fond of saying, "You never want a serious crisis to go to waste."
And the Democrat Party will shamefully use this Mexican tragedy to destroy American liberty.
