Destroying Freedom

by BD Pisani - 2008 oct 29

Recently, I asked several of my friends and associates what they considered to be the primary purpose of the Constitution of the United States of America. Answers varied, ranging from a blueprint for government to guaranteeing freedom or simply "I don't know."

What surprised me was that not one person recognized the single most important reason for the Constitution's existence, at least as identified by the Founders in The Federalist Papers. The reason?

To limit the power of government.

Decades of abuses at the hands of anU.S. Constitution overly repressive, authoritarian government and that government's disdain for the honest grievances of its loyal subjects was precisely why the bloody, seven-and-a-half-year American Revolution came about in the first place.

Everything else comes after limiting government

American freedoms, freedoms many take for granted such as assembly, speech, religion, right to bear arms, self-determination, individualism, property ownership, unlimited opportunity to succeed -- all of these wonders were and are possible because of the government-limiting principles, the checks and balances, that are the very essence of our sacred document.

The Founders realized that a central government was necessary to bind the several new "states" together in cohesive union, yet they feared a too-powerful government that might replace an autocratic king with a despotic committee, or worse. Additionally, the former individual colonies were loathe to cede any of their citizen or state rights and powers to a central government, including raising armies, the coinage of money, tax levies, etc.

The Constitution was therefore carefully crafted to address such misgivings by placing strict limits on the newly-created federal authority and guaranteeing individual and states' rights. Needless to say, it was ratified in 1787 and has guided this most fortunate nation ever since.

And therein lies the brilliance and foresight under which the Founders labored. It is no accident that the people of the United States of America, average citizens like you and me, have prospered and succeeded in a manner far beyond what the rest of the world could ever imagine or hope for, then or now.

The shining city on a hill is reality to the world

Since humanity first appeared and people organized into clans, groups, families, and nations, no group of human beings has ever produced and shared the wealth, freedom, opportunity, prosperity, and security for its people as has the United States. The United States of America, throughout the span of humanity, is simply the greatest nation, by any definition, in history. How can this be? How did this happen? Are we better than any other nation? Are our citizens better than other people? Of course not.

But we did something unheard of -- we constitutionally limited government intrusions to guarantee individual freedoms. No other nation ever conceived or practiced such a radical idea. And although over a lengthy span of time many Western European nations have since emulated our style of governance, none have been able to fully safeguard against a meddlesome central authority intruding on the societal and fiscal bounds of its citizens.

It's remarkable, really. We as Americans have, in just 230-some years, revolutionized everything about life. We produced the greatest standard of living ever, and shared how to do it with other nations. We produced a nation where citizens have the highest opportunities for family well-being, security, wealth, education, and any other human aspiration imaginable -- so much so that to this day desperate people flock to America by the millions each year, just to breathe the clean air of freedom.

Have you ever seriously thought about why these immigrants didn't better themselves at home? Why couldn't they experience the human rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness where they were? What is that defining difference?

Obama's Constitution is "deeply flawed"

Obama is shrewd and savvy. He and his party understand that in order to gain greater control over our nation's wealth and societal direction, they must increase the control of central government over the lives of American citizens.

It must be noted for the sake of accuracy that in fact throughoutMichelle and Barack Obama his formative and college years and thereafter, Obama and his wife Michelle were weaned on the political teachings of Saul Alinsky, Noam Chompsky, Marx, and Engels, implanted with radical ideologies and anti-Semitism from the likes of Rashid Khalidi, Frank Marshall Davis, William Ayers, and Rasul Muhammad, and immersed in the racist, anti-American beliefs of Louis Farrakahn, Khalid Ai-Mansour, and Jeremiah Wright.

If you have paid attention to what Obama is actually saying, did some research to find out why Team Obama has been hiding his past from you, and dug into the Drive-by Media's collusion by not reporting on his past, you already know the following.

Obama himself has stated that the Constitution is a deeply-flawed document, and has compared present-day America to the Nazi regime of the 1930s and '40s.

Obama considers the Constitution and the United States of America as part and parcel to the greatest failure in the experiment of social and economic justice and equality that the human race has ever tried. Thus the Obama mantra for change -- change so that everybody ends up the same, without some people faring better than others -- because it's unfair.

The American dream must die for the sake of change

With wealth redistribution, Obama's plans will destroy the freedom engine that created all of this opportunity, individual opportunity to succeed that will be replaced by a massive federal government system to whom more and more citizens will become dependent on their wants and even basic needs.

While this scheme to punish achievers is not new, Obama's approach is. In a 2001 PBS radio interview, Obama's remarks about achieving "a coalitions of power through which you bring about redistributive change" served as his Mein Kampf, an explanation of the techniques he would use to change America's future. He also talked about how the Bill of Rights were "negative rights" because they limited government too much.

The government will decide when you earn too much; when you earn more than the magic number, you lose. It is the goal of today's Democrat Party (not the once-idealistic party of your parents) to create as many people dependent on state and federal government as possible so the people out of necessity must continue to vote Democrat.

And they will ultimately fail.

Obama and the Democrat Party will fail because this has been done before, tried more times than one can count -- and failed. Unfortunately, before their redistribution of wealth and socialization of America schemes fail, America will no longer be the Land of Freedom or the benevolent, prosperous economic giant that can feed the world as we now do.

After failure, what then?

All that was unique, all that facilitated our greatness and ensured our individual liberties will be altered, and adversely so. Our Constitution will be manipulated and purposely misinterpreted in the courts even more than it has already suffered.

And after their failure, what then? How many years or decades will it take to restore the very essence of liberty -- limitation of government -- which guaranteed our success and greatness to begin with? Will we be able to do it at all, regain the full measure of our American freedoms, short of another bloody revolution?

I realize that some of you reading this are in denial, deluding yourselves into thinking that nothing of the sort could ever happen, but it can and it will.

You are as wrong about what is coming as you are about how a man such as Obama, with his near-total lack of political experience, a past and upbringing that has been kept from us, and an education and mentoring at the hands of people who hate America as it is could ever be considered for, much less attain, the presidency.

You, not government, are the best provider for yourself, for your family, and for our nation. You are the best determining factor for your future, not some government bureaucrat. You know best how best to personally succeed, what your dreams are and how to attain them. Don't give all that up, because it will not be so easy to get back.
