Media obsessed on Foley, ignored Mahoney for weeks
This sordid story is a yet another classic example of mainstream Drive-by Media bias during election time. It appears that the sainted, holier-than-thou Democrat Congressman Tim Mahoney of Florida (representing B2's district, for Pete's sake), has been cavorting in at least two extramarital affairs for quite some time -- and oh yes, there's more.
Not satisfied to be saddled with charges of mere adultery, Mahoney is alleged to have offered his latest lover, congressional staffer Patricia Allen, a bribe of $120 thousand dollars to keep her mouth shut about the affair.
Adultery is good but bribery is so much better. Throw in the fact that the bribery came only after Mahoney's attempt to bully Allen by firing her didn't work. Nice guy, eh? A real man.
You probably recall that in 2006, Representative Mark Foley was forced to resign over revelations of his text messages and e-mails to teenage boys serving as House pages. Since it was prior to the November election and Republican Foley wasn't on the Drive-by Media's All-Liberal Team, we were subjected to a bombardment of churlish Foley news day after day, night after night, and week after week for five weeks right up to Election Eve. Our boy Tim Mahoney was the one who promised that if elected, his congressional term would be moral, ethical, and honorable. Oops.
It's all on tape
This past Monday, radio giant Rush Limbaugh devoted an entire segment to the story and played the tapes of Mahoney and his mistress, adding that the Mainstream Drive-by Media knew about all of this for weeks yet did nothing to inform America. Limbaugh offered the believable theory that the media was going to wait until AFTER the election to publicly break the story.
Mahoney was already breaking faith with his family and his future constituents as those fine words about morals and honor oozed from his disingenuous mouth. In fact, according to The Washington Post, House Democrat Caucus Chairman Rahm Emanuel (D-Ill.), confronted Mahoney after the election, early in 2007, about his rumored bad behavior.According to the Post, Democrat House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has called for a House ethics investigation into the allegations against Mahoney. At this point, Democrat leaders don't mind tossing Mahoney overboard given their extremely lucky Election Day forecast.
But they knew all along yet did nothing -- and their media lap dogs followed suite.
But B2, this isn't as bad as ...
Sending emails and text messages? Yeah, I guess you're right. I actually had a work mate state those very words to me. Since Bill Clinton, this is what it has come down to -- a growing segment of our society just doesn't seem to understand the significance when elected officials break their oaths of office, lie, and commit crimes.
I guess it isn't as bad when a trusted congressman lies to his constituents. It isn't as bad when a trusted congressman cheats on and lies to his wife and defiles his sacred vows. It isn't as bad when a trusted congressman places his innocent children and friends in a whirlpool of shame and media glare. It isn't as bad when a trusted congressman commits the felony of attempted bribery, breaking his oath of office in the process.
And it also isn't as bad when The Democrat Party and the Democrat Speaker of the House of Representatives, third in line to the presidency, covered up what was going on for two years.
Yup, you're right, it isn't as bad -- and besides, wasn't Foley gay? Well, there you go -- Foley's emails were MUCH worse than Mahoney's bullying, adultery, lying, oath-breaking, and attempted bribery.
And I really don't want to hear that this is "just a personal matter." Tens of thousands of constituents, the State of Florida, and the nation are directly affected by his personal transgressions. When you are elected to public office, such gross misconduct is an indicator of questionable integrity and susceptibility to blackmail.
Just ask Mark Foley ... oh wait, I forgot ... he's gay, a Republican, and not Bill Clinton, so it was okay for him to be crucified by the Drive-by Media and the voters.
