Congressional scam: What you really fell for

by BD Pisani - 2006 dec 11

A jubilant Nancy Pelosi, fresh on the heels of a Democrat sweep of Congress, praised voters for "thinking" and "saying no to ideology." But a closer analysis reveals that all is not what it seems and what was promised by liberals during the mid-term election campaign will never see the light of day — and you voters who are responsible are in for an unpleasant surprise.

The Democrat Party's masterful scheme centered upon three main components:

  • 1. During the last two weeks of the campaign, keep the radical leadership out of the limelight — no television appearances, no interviews, no sound bites;
  • 2. Direct the mainstream media to incessantly flog corruption and morality issues against only the Republican candidates while excluding those of vulnerable Democrat Party candidates; and
  • 3. Hand-pick and provide overwhelming financial support to new congressional Democrat Party candidates who project socially moderate or conservative values.

This stealth strategy, coupled with Democrats never once referring to themselves as Liberals, trusting but naive moderate voters, principled but foolish conservative abandonment of incumbent Republicans, and an en masse boycott of the voting booth by principled but foolish conservatives proved successful and provided socialists with control of the House of Representatives and the Senate.

What you voted for

You voted for socially moderate or conservative Democrats who promised an end to ideological squabbling and general support for traditional American values. These included:

  • Senator Jim Webb (Virginia), pro-gun, veteran, former Reagan Navy Secretary;
  • Senator Bob Casey (Pennsylvania), anti-abortion;
  • Representative Brad Ellsworth (Indiana), no-tax pledge;
  • Senator Jon Tester (Montana), anti-abortion, pro-gun;
  • Representative John Yarmuth (Kentucky), former Republican; and
  • Representative Heath Schuler (North Carolina), NFL quarterback, pro-gun, Christian.

Of course there are many more, but you get the point.

Each new House and Senate member, on his or her own merit, looked attractive to moderate voters and certainly did not come across as even remotely liberal. Unfortunately, none of the new members who gave as a gift control of Congress to their leadership will be able to keep any of their campaign promises, let alone successfully champion their own personal beliefs.

Why? Because the Democrat Party leadership will not allow it. Each freshman member of both houses will be told how to vote on every issue, and they will do so or else — no financial support, no legislative support for their home districts or states, no media support, and no future re-election support. Mind you and make no mistake — This will happen; it always has and always will.

No, the likes of Speaker of the House Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Administrative Oversight and the Courts Chuck Schumer, Chairman of the Government Reform Committee Henry Waxman, House Energy and Commerce Chair John Dingell, House Armed Services Committee Chair Charles Rangel, and Financial Services Committee Chair Barney Frank will play the tune and the freshmen will dance.

But to what tune will the newcomers dance? You were told the Democrat Party would comprise the most ethical Congress in the history of America, would not micro-manage the military, would not increase taxes, would not institute partisan investigations while America is at war, would not consider presidential impeachment while America is at war, would not retreat from the War on Terror, and would not engage in ideological politics.

And you "moderates" out there swallowed it hook, line, and sinker. The reality of what America has in store could not be further from those artfully-crafted yet disingenuous statements. You righteous, single-issue, wrong-headed conservatives who stayed away from the polls or who protest-voted for what we are now stuck with should be bursting with pride — you showed them, by God — didn't you?

What you're going to get

Everything that follows is fact and easily verified should you choose to do so. This, despite what you heard and believed during the campaign, is what is really going to happen:

Federal Judges. Senator Schumer flatly stated that "There will be no more right-wing judges, period." Schumer added that "the single greatest failure of the Democrat Party was allowing Samuel Alito to join the Supreme Court." This means more liberal judicial appointments who will from the bench legitimize more property takings, more prohibitions on religious freedom (but only against Christianity), more usurpation of the legislative process through judicial decree, greater undermining of executive authority, more litigation against American industry and corporations, and radical interpretations of the Constitution and Bill of Rights that will set precedents for generations to come.

National Defense and the Military. Senator Harry Reid has already outlined a strategy for a "redeployment of troops." He publicly stated that the Democrat-controlled Congress will "Redeploy the bulk of our forces in Iraq and focus on counter-insurgency force protection." What on Earth does this mean? It means that we will retreat from Iraq, thereby leaving it to become the hotbed of terrorism that al-Qaida boldly proclaimed it shall be, and once again showing the world our complete lack of resolve and national will, that our word cannot be trusted, and skulking away from and abandoning yet another nation for which, like it or not, we are now responsible.

Representative Charles Rangel will push for a mandatory military draft, claiming that "it is unfair for minorities and the poor to be the only ones to join the military because they have no career options." Forget the fact that statistics prove him wrong, and that 89 percent of the all-volunteer military chose to enlist to develop personal skills, develop personal character, take on a personal challenge, and for the most noble reason of all: patriotism and American security. Forget the fact that at no time in our nation's history, including World Wars One and Two, has military morale, force fighting effectiveness, and professionalism ever been higher. Just ask any Vietnam veteran how well a military filled with draftees functions.

Representative Barney Frank has promised to introduce legislation that "modifies" the military's current "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy — to mandate open homosexuality as part of America's all-volunteer military.

Partisan Investigations. Representative Henry Waxman stated that "I'm going to have an interesting time because the Government Reform Committee has jurisdiction over everything." He added, " The most difficult thing will be to pick and choose what to investigate." Representative John Conyers has already drafted a proposal to impeach President Bush and has held mock proceedings with like-minded House members as practice for this upcoming event. In fact, outgoing Democrat Representative Cynthia McKinney just submitted a petition calling for impeachment proceedings.

Senators Kennedy, Schumer, and Leahy have promised investigations into America's foreign and domestic intelligence services, intelligence-gathering methods, terrorist prisoner facilities and legal rights, and a re-evaluation of the "War on Terror." National security secrets and methodology will be publicly exposed, even more so than what has already been leaked to their media lapdogs by Democrat Party congressional staff. Proven safety and security measures against terrorism will be severely curtailed, exposed, or eliminated.

Social Engineering. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has just outlined his congressional agenda, calling for "fixing the Medicare prescription drug program and lower prescription drug prices and ending giveaways to drug companies and HMOs." This really means government price controls on the health care sector and higher taxes to pay for it. According to Representative Dingell and Senator Schumer, taxes must be raised significantly to pay for what the Congress is planning:

  • Increased government control of health care;
  • Tougher industrial energy standards;
  • Tougher home appliance standards;
  • Greater vehicle and fuel restrictions;
  • Providing free health care to all children;
  • Mandatory affordable housing;
  • Providing free college educations to math and science majors;
  • Expanding 'humanitarian' benefits for illegal aliens; and
  • A substantial increase in the minimum wage.

In addition to higher consumer prices, a reduction in federal tax revenue, harming the economy, and further crippling the competitiveness of American industry, someone has to pay for all of this socialism and societal engineering, and it certainly won't be your representative or senator.

Tax Cuts. House Budget Committee Chair John Spratt recently told the media, "The current tax breaks would have to be weighed in terms of their ultimate impact on the bottom line." This means that the engine that is driving America's booming economy and our retirement accounts, the Republican tax cuts, will be gutted.

Punishment. Enemies of the Democrat Party, their allies, or their financial supporters are in for a rough time. Wal-Mart, McDonald's, Haliburton, and any other successful company in the categories of Big Pro-Military, Big Oil, Big Insurance, Big Food, or Big Health will undergo congressional scrutiny and suffer punishment in the form legislation designed to instill specially-targeted taxes, mandatory union representation, mandatory higher wages, and mandatory health care provisioning. There will be special congressional oversight for those companies on the hit list.

And don't forget the NRA. All you Americans who believe the Second Amendment is actually part of the ten amendments contained within the Bill of Rights, come back to reality. None of the candidates you voted into Congress and who professed a belief in and respect for the Second Amendment, personal freedom, and gun-owners' rights will ever get the chance to debate the new anti-gun laws planned for the next two legislative sessions, much less be allowed to vote in opposition.

Conservative talk radio? Despite the fact that media popularity is driven by ratings and advertising sales (meaning that we the people vote with our time and wallets as to whom we wish to listen), look for a resurrection of The Fairness Doctrine. It is a done deal and your free choice will be opted out of the equation. Phil Donahue and Air America, a captive audience awaits you.

What you can do about it

Ahem. You as voters can come to your senses. Sure, those seemingly attractive Democrats you just voted in are well to the right of their party overlords, but they will not be able to stop the Left's onslaught that is coming. Fortunately, in less than two years the House will be up for grabs again and, assuming that you have regained control of your faculties, you can at least partly undo the damage you helped create.

In a way, this past election stands out as an example of true voter fraud. However, America's saving grace is that regardless of what Democrats say during elections or falsely promise, they always, always act as liberals and govern as liberals — thereby negating whatever they have attained through deception. One can only hope that the damage to come during the next two years in the House is not chronic and can be remedied. The next six years in the Senate, however, is another, darker matter entirely — the damage to America's federal judiciary alone will be long-lasting indeed.

For you moderates out there, please try to remember today's little chat come 2008, and for you conservatives, please try not to be so wrong-headed.
