Gunning for the VP; Talking points deception

by BD Pisani - 2006 feb 15

This week the President's press secretary, Scott McClellen, was and is being badgered by the Antique Media press corps over how, where, when, and why Vice-President Dick Cheney accidentally shot his close friend and hunting partner Harry Whittington. Cover up, they scream. Most secretive administration ever, they wail...

We listen as outraged Democrat politicians and their operatives make the rounds on news talk shows demanding an investigation of the accident and reasons why Cheney first summoned medical aid for his friend rather than immediately reporting to the authorities.

We cover our ears as an angry Mrs. Hillary Clinton shrilly denounces the administration as the most secretive in modern times and demands (Demands!) that Cheney "level" with the public after ignobly keeping mum about accidentally shooting his dear friend.

We observe the effontry as a many-times-over discredited Antique Media proclaims its outrage because Cheney authorized a public release of information -- not to the left-wing media consortium -- but to a local Corpus Christi, Texas, newspaper.

We attempt to refocus our eyes in disbelief as we read the Left's favorite fish wrapper, The New York Times, hopefully speculating that Cheney should appear before a grand jury and possibly face charges, should -- are you ready --- Mr. Whittington die. America's newspaper of record, indeed.

Talking points mantra

For four days now, America's socialist pols and media have been consumed with this story. They have blasted the Bush administration, charging that they have repeatedly "refused to be forthcoming about information that is of significance and relevance to the jobs that all of you do, and the interests of the American People."

Ah, the "American People." Two magic words that always appear in every leftist talking points memo. And so all this -- national security at stake, an incident of crisis proportions, an event vital to the American People -- all this socialist kerfuffle over a hunting accident.

Most secretive? Interest of the American people? Oh, really... Let's take a deep breath, relax, and remind Mrs. Clinton and the rest of those leftist shrieking heads about a few things, shall we?

If truth mattered, the majority of the American People are now well aware that the modern Democratic Party, their radical special-interest paymasters, and the lapdog media they control despise George Bush. It doesn't matter that he cannot run again. It doesn't matter that we are a nation at war. It doesn't even matter that this hunting incident is not an uncommon occurrence -- this is known to all hunters -- which is probably why the gun-hating liberal elites don't comprehend. If reality was important, most of the American People are now savvy to the fact that the minority liberals hate Bush and will do anything, have tried everything, to harm his presidency.

Should Vice-President Cheney have instructed the Secret Service detachment to contact law enforcement sooner than they did? Probably. Could he have been more forthright with a media that detests him because by extension he represents a man the Left loathes? Perhaps. But it wouldn't have made one bit of difference; not to the investigation of the accident, not to the Whittington family, and certainly not to Antique Media and the Democratic Party.

There is a systemic, vitriolic hatred of President Bush held by today's Democratic Party minions that transcends cogent thought and greatly oversteps the bounds of mere political partisanship.

I suppose that if you couldn't field a candidate to beat him, you're left with running him over with a newspaper delivery truck.

And oh by the way, what is it with this most secretive administration mantra? Why is the Democratic Party following this particular talking points memo, hammering away as though there is nothing else of import engaging the nation?

Propaganda points versus reality

Does anybody remember a real case of duplicitousness (that's deceptive secrecy, for those of you in Okeechobee County), when John and Bobby Kennedy ordered the FBI to illegally wiretap Martin Luther King's phones and illegally surveil his family and associates? Or is it just me who remembers?

Does anybody remember a real case of duplicitousness, when Ted Kennedy abandoned a young woman to drown in the dead of night, only to call his attorney the next day before the authorities were ever contacted? Or is it just me who remembers?

Does anybody remember a real case of duplicitousness, when Ted Kennedy stonewalled an investigation into the rape that occurred at his palatial Palm Beach mansion? Or is it just me who remembers?

Does anybody remember a real case of duplicitousness, when Bill Clinton and his administration stonewalled the reporting of and suppressed the law enforcement investigation into the shooting death of Vince Foster? Or is it just me who remembers?

Does anybody remember a real case of duplicitousness, when Bill Clinton and his administration stonewalled the Whitewater investigation and whose associates shredded countless documents critical to the investigation? Or is it just me who remembers?

Does anybody remember a real case of duplicitousness, when Bill Clinton was impeached and found guilty of lying under oath to a federal grand jury? Or is it just me who remembers?

Issues ignored

One could go on and on about another administration proven to be not only secretive but sleazy, ad nauseam, if one were so inclined. Can you hear me, Mrs. Clinton?

Is it just me who thinks that the ongoing war on terror and the evolution of the democratic process in Iraq is just a smidgen more important to the American People than a hunting accident?

Is it just me who thinks that the welfare of our young men and women in the military is just a mite more important to the American People than a hunting accident?

Is it just me who thinks that Iran's recent announcement of its program to enrich uranium to weapons-grade quality is just a tad more important to the American People than a hunting accident?

Is it just me who thinks that Congress ensuring the Bush tax cuts become permanent is just a tittle more important to the American People than a hunting accident?

Is it just me who thinks that our threatened, out-of-control southern border and the flood of illegal aliens into our country is just a scintilla more important to the American People than a hunting accident?

Is it just me?
