Shame of the odious "Liberal Lion"
I followed the Senate confirmation hearing of Judge Samuel Alito, struggling mightily to avoid expressing any thoughts until the ignoble affair concluded. However, no comments of mine are now necessary regarding that sham's content or procedure because the entire nation was subjected to a revealing dose of Edward M. "Teddy" Kennedy...
Senator Kennedy, once known as the Liberal Lion by partisan faithful, repeatedly displayed the mean-spiritedness and condescension that seems to permeate from every pore of the leftist elite. Although not thought possible and still difficult to comprehend, Kennedy surpassed the malevolence, hubris, and contemptuousness of Senator Chuckie Schumer -- quite an accomplishment by any standard.
Wealth, insulation, and privilege
Raised in privileged splendor, insulated and protected from the realities of life and consequences of personal choice, this career politician has shamefully posed as a gilt-edged overlord for forty years. During his senatorial tenure, Kennedy has always projected an air of moral superiority and aristocratic recalcitrance in his dealings with whomever he considers bourgeois and unrefined. Among this rabble are conservatives of every stripe, Christians, the ignorant hicks in fly-over country (so-called Middle America), and of course, anyone with a Southern drawl.
But really, who is this blue-blooded pretender? Does Kennedy's life history somehow rightfully empower him to imperiously lecture from a moral pedestal or display utter contempt for common decency? I think not, and here are the verifiable facts why:
Sordid hypocrisy
Teddy is the youngest son of Joe and Rose Kennedy. Cleo O'Donnell, a wife of a former Kennedy campaign aide said, "Teddy Kennedy was the weak kitten in the litter, never able to measure up to his brothers." At prep school his performance was so mediocre his brother JFK once referred to Teddy as "the gay illiterate." Browse a few of this hero's accomplishments:
- The Liberal Lion is the same man who was admitted to Harvard University as a legacy student rather than for academic achievement.
- The Liberal Lion is the same man who was expelled from Harvard for cheating in his sophomore year because he paid another student to take exams for him.
- The Liberal Lion is the same man who signed up for a four-year hitch in the Army, only to feel the wrath of his father due to the onset of the Korean War. Joseph Kennedy (once the U.S. Ambassador to England but recalled for his pro-Nazi and anti-Semitic views), pushed political buttons, revised the enlistment to two years, and ensured that Teddy served at SHAEF headquarters in Europe rather than being sent to Korea. In two years Teddy never was promoted above the rank of private.
- The Liberal Lion is the same man who was assisted in his readmission and graduation from Harvard, then was ushered into the University of Virginia Law School. At Virginia, he was called "Cadillac Eddie" and received four tickets in two years for running red lights and driving at night with lights off at 90 miles per hour through neighborhoods. But even with convictions, fines and strict driving regulations, he never lost his license. Teddy's lifelong scofflaw attitude would later surface publicly beneath a little bridge in Martha's Vineyard.
- The Liberal Lion is the same man whose father, in 1960, strong-armed the Governor of Massachusetts to appoint a lightweight to fill John F. Kennedy's senate seat after he was elected president. Why? Because Teddy wasn't yet 30 years of age, so he couldn't run for the seat. In 1962, father Joseph financed his son's campaign, organized statewide support, and voila, Teddy became a U.S. Senator.
- The Liberal Lion is the same man who in July of 1969 was one of a party of six married men and six single women at Chappaquiddick, Martha's Vineyard. Investigators confirmed that a package liquor store sold three half-gallons of vodka, four fifths of scotch, two bottles of rum and two cases of beer for their "party." At 1:00 a.m. a drunken Teddy was driving his Oldsmobile with his "date" Mary Jo Kopechne as passenger. Teddy missed the bridge and the car went into the water. Teddy managed to escape the vehicle but left Mary Jo Kopechne with the submerged car to die an agonizing death by drowning. Rather than attempting a rescue of the trapped woman or seeking assistance, Teddy didn't report the accident for more than 10 hours, going so far as to contact his attorney before contacting the police.
Neither Kennedy's timeline nor account of events matched the facts nor the statements from the deputy sheriffs or nearby residents. While the 10-hour delay ensured that he couldn't be charged with driving while intoxicated, his driver's license had expired and he had fled the scene of an accident. Friends recreated his driver's license, but Chapter 90, Section 24 of the Massachusetts vehicle code requires "imprisonment for not less than 20 days or more than two years" when a driver leaves the scene of an accident where injuries occur - for all the people of Massachusetts, that is, except Teddy:
- The Liberal Lion is the same man who castigates oil companies as greedy and has championed the cause of stifling oil and gas exploration in America, all the while reaping the benefits of his considerable financial interests in oil company stocks and brokerage deals.
- The Liberal Lion is the same man who demands that the average American give up their automobiles and embrace alternative energy sources, yet leads the charge to impede the growth of nuclear power. Teddy also was instrumental in blocking a wind power generation company from erecting windmills near his family estate in Hyannis Port along Nantucket Sound.
- The Liberal Lion is the same man who is on public record as calling the President of the United States of America a liar and "the world's greatest terrorist," all while actively involved in political maneuvering which subverts troop moral and threatens the safety of United States citizens during a time of war.
- The Liberal Lion is the same man who is now howling for impeachment based upon the president's honestly-held premises for war, the same premises once firmly held and vocalized by the leaders of Great Britain, Germany, and France, as well as Bill Clinton. John Kerry, Hillary Clinton, John Edwards, Joseph Biden, and most of the Democrat Party leadership cadre.
- The Liberal Lion is the same man who now rages about the administration's anti-terrorist intelligence-gathering operations during a time of war, the exact same intelligence operations and methods used during the administrations of Presidents Reagan, Bush, and Clinton.
Fraudulent elitist
I could go on and on and on, because Kennedy's sordid past and hypocrisy-laden present have been barely scratched. I could cite names, dates and locations for many of Teddy's multitudinous bouts of marital infidelity and drunken debauchery. I could remind you, in great detail, of the rape that occurred at the Kennedy compound in Palm Beach. It would be a waste of our valuable time.
However, after relentless and false attacks on Judge Sam Alito's character and decisions he made in his personal life, to the point where Alito's wife left the confirmation hearings in tears, perhaps Americans will understand what a sanctimonious, ruthless, partisan bully the Liberal Lion really is, all the while pretending to statesman status.
Shame on the people of Massachusetts who enable this pathetic man.
