The day after Thanksgiving is Black Friday

Hmm. I see where there have been several fights as consumers flocked to stores for one of the busiest shopping days of the year. It seems that line jumpers, hoping to get an edge on other shoppers for bargains, caused those waiting in line to lose their patience.

Now I have been told that the day after Thanksgiving is known as "Black Friday" because traditionally it is seen as the day most retailers go into the "black" and start earning a profit for the year. But perhaps it denotes just how dark, base, and classless people can be.

Look, I wish all of the retailers across the nation best wishes and hope that they prosper -- that's the American Way and it makes our country stronger so more power to them. But is there any gift so valuable, any sales price so dear that one must literally fight with others simply to be the first to partake? Er...that would be resounding no.

Let's face it, waiting in line several hours in cold weather for a store to open gives new meaning to the word "stupidity." But attempting to cut in front of those stupid shoppers is worse.
