Wilma recovery underway but spirits are low
Hurricane Wilma is now history, but the good residents of my Little Martin are reeling from the aftershock of dealing with their fourth hurricane, this one a Category 3, in the span of a mere 13 months.
This is simply unheard of; Out of those four hurricanes, three - Frances, Jeanne, and Wilma - were direct hits on the county. The eyewall of the fourth, Katrina, missed Little Martin by a measly 70 miles.
This will be brief because although power has just been restored, Ol' B2 and his emergency management amigos are literally exhausted, as is also true of our friends and neighbors. The yard is filled with debris, some of my hurricane shutters were ripped away and windows were blown in, but I didn't lose the roof so the house is semi-dry.
And despite the considerable physical damage the county suffered, the long-term emotional damage to its residents may be worse. All I know is that right now, we are all emotionally spent and very despondent - this is enough writing for today.
But tomorrow is a wonderful thing because it brings a new day and the sun will shine again.
