When liberals are in charge

by BD Pisani - 2005 sep 10

Now that the Left's blame game has been proven to be fraudulent, now that America clearly sees that President Bush did not cause Katrina or its aftermath, now that we know FEMA is not a first-response agency, who do we REALLY blame? Jeffers of Free Republic fame offers the following:

When you listen to a Liberal typing away from his soft chair in front of the computer, you can almost see the wave of the magic wand at work.

You don't have to preposition an army of relief in a semicircle around a threatened city, the way FEMA did, beginning two days before the storm, you just wave that magic wand, park it all right next to the Superdome, and fairy dust prevents the storm from destroying it.

There's no need to assess the entire region and decide what you need more of, or where any of it should go. You don't have to look a hundred dying people in the eye and let them die, so you can put your assets to work saving thirty thousand people somewhere else. That magic wand means you have all the supplies and manpower you need, nobody ever has to die from a 500 year storm, triage is just a word in old books, la la la.

You don't have to consider the fact that one million refugees need one gallon of water per day, each, or that moving that much water requires 100 semi tankers full.

Per day.

Not counting the extra people you are putting in there to help.

You don't have to move a hundred field kitchens, and a hundred field hospitals, or a thousand, or several thousand, to treat and feed those people. You don't have to unload them from trucks, and set them up, and support each of them with food and supplies and fuel, each of which ties up trucks, day after day. Tinkerbell flies over and the wounded heal magically and the horn of plenty keeps their bellies full 24/7.

There's no need for the already slow green trucks to slow down even more on their way in, behind an army of bulldozers and cranes clearing buried roadways. None of the major billion dollar bridges have been washed away by the storm. Pick any road you choose, lock in the cruise control, and wake me up when we get there.

It never takes three days for the heavy duty Federal relief and rescue forces to arrive, nobody in hurricane country has ever heard of the 72 hour rule, and that rule has not applied to every storm for the last thirty years, to the point where it has actually been written into law in several related instances.

The state and local officials aren't expected to hold the line while Federal forces marshall and field tent cities and temporary housing for a million refugees, because new cities for storm victims spring right up out of the ground like magic mushrooms.

That magic wand is a real piece of work, let me tell you.

At least, it is when you listen to Liberals talk.

When you actually put Liberals in charge of something, the results are little bit different.

When Liberals are in charge, and the disaster plan doesn't work during a test run, it goes back in the drawer, unchanged.

When Liberals are in charge, the plan stays in the drawer before and after a storm. The school buses and Greyhound coaches sit unused while the water creeps up around them until they are useless, and then fingers point at others, demanding more. "Right Now, God Dammit!"

When Liberals are in charge, they don't mind looking the old and the sick and the infirm right in the eye and telling them, "Expect nothing from us. You are on your own." ("Times-Picayune, The (New Orleans, LA) July 24, 2005). City, state and federal emergency officials are preparing to give the poorest of New Orleans' poor a historically blunt message: In the event of a major hurricane, you're on your own.

In scripted appearances being recorded now, officials such as Mayor Ray Nagin, local Red Cross Executive Director Kay Wilkins and City Council President Oliver Thomas drive home the word that the city does not have the resources to move out of harm's way an estimated 134,000 people without transportation.

In the video, made by the anti-poverty agency Total Community Action, they urge those people to make arrangements now by finding their own ways to leave the city in the event of an evacuation.

"You're responsible for your safety, and you should be responsible for the person next to you," Wilkins said in an interview. "If you have some room to get that person out of town, the Red Cross will have a space for that person outside the area. We can help you -- 'But we don't have the transportation.'"

When Liberals are in charge, the local police are so corrupt and mismanaged that many of them simply lay down their badges and run, abandoning the city they swore to serve and protect, taking their families and police cars to Houston with them. These cowards aren't punished either. They, along with the brave ones who stayed and fought to save a dying city are rewarded with a free trip to Las Vegas, $200 per day allowance, all at taxpayer expense,while the dead swell up and stink in the sun.

When Liberals are in charge, the emergency generators in flood prone cities are placed, where else, on the lowest floor, and they fail in the flood, leaving the Superdome in the dark, and the entire city without police communications.

When Liberals are in charge, attempts to repair the backup generator for the police communications network are turned away, resulting in police stations and hospitals being overrun by looters, not to mention the chaos at the dome.

When Liberals are in charge, the police not only join in with the looters, stealing TV's, computers, and DVDs, they turn refugees back into the city, away from safety, and steal their food and supplies at gunpoint

When Liberals are in charge, you hear them screaming that the people at the Superdome and Convention Center need food and water, while they are blocking the Red Cross from delivering precisely these items.

When Liberals are in charge, the money allocated for the levees is spent on other things, yacht clubs, casinos, resort islands, bridges and locks that are not needed. Glaring major flaws, like a 12 mile wide funnel pointing directly into the storm surge, that feeds water to a 250 foot wide waterway between 17 foot tall seawalls between east Orleans and St. Bernards Parish are left standing, and the water fills these areas up to the very tops of the seawalls, inside the seawalls, trapping hundreds or thousands of people in their attics, within minutes of the eyewall's arrival.

I can go on, and on, and on, and on, and I'm sure I will have to when the Liberals here read this post and respond with yet more self serving BS, smoke, and mirrors, but the point is already crystal clear. Liberals talk a great game, but when the chips are down, and the magic wand doesn't work, voting them into office is a great way to get yourself killed.

Bottom line, you can divide the hurricane relief effort into four main parts:

  • State and local immediate rescue and relief efforts in Mississippi;
  • Follow on massive Federal relief in Mississippi;
  • State and local immediate rescue and relief efforts in Louisiana; and
  • Follow on massive Federal relief in Louisiana.

Three out of four of these worked well enough that you don't hear any major complaints about them at all.

One of the four, state and local relief in Louisiana, might be said to have failed miserably. Might be, except it didn't really fail because the Liberals in charge there didn't even really try.

If you want to know the truth, all you have to do is compare what has happened in Mississippi, much harder hit by the storm, to what didn't happen in Louisiana.

Keep that in mind when you walk up to a ballot box during the next election.
