Appeasement: When will you people learn?
The deed is done. Except for a few, scattered pockets, Israeli forces swept through homes, businesses, and synagogues in Gaza settlements to forcefully evict more than 15,000 Israeli settlers -- all Israeli citizens.
Army and police personnel used SWAT teams, water cannons, gas agents, and any bodily force necessary on their fellow countrymen. The Israeli government has turned on its own people and reduced its country's border security in the distant hope that there will be peace with the Palestinians.
Yeah. Sure. When pigs fly. If Israel's critics are right -- meaning the corrupt United Nations and the rest of the Jew-hating world, the Gaza withdrawal will improve Palestinian attitudes toward Israel, leading to an end of Arab terrorism and the slaughter of Jewish women and children. The pointy-headed leftists and snotty elites contend that if Israeli "occupation" is the problem, ending it will lead to peace.
But not so fast, sport. Polls indicate 80 percent of Palestinians continue to reject Israel's very existence and despise Jews. They see Israel's Gaza withdrawal as a sign of weakness and will only increase their murder through terrorism in those other territories the Israelis have not evacuated -- including Jerusalem.
But don't take my word for it. Read what Ahmed al-Bahar, a top Hamas figure in Gaza, says:
"Israel has never been in such a state of retreat and weakness as it is today following more than four years of the Intifada. Hamas's heroic attacks exposed the weakness and volatility of the impotent Zionist security establishment. The withdrawal marks the end of the Zionist dream and is a sign of the moral and psychological decline of the Jewish state. We believe that the resistance is the only way to pressure the Jews."
Or how about Sami Abu Zuhri, a Hamas spokesman:
"The withdrawal is due to the Palestinian resistance operations, and we will continue our resistance."
Need more? Jamal Abu Samhadaneh, commander of Gaza's Popular Resistance Committees, recently announced:
"We will move our cells to the West Bank. The withdrawal will not be complete without the West Bank and Jerusalem." The Palestinian Authority's Ahmed Qurei also triumphantly shouts, "Our march will stop only in Jerusalem."
