Do we really want to lose America?
Well, well, well. Javier and Araceli Garcia, ILLEGAL ALIENS from Mexico, never thought the U.S. government would help them realize their dream of owning a home. But last year, the couple secured a high-risk, $54,600 mortgage through a speculating lender to buy the 1,158-square-foot bungalow they had been renting for eight months in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
The Wisconsin housing authority financed the loan. The United States Internal Revenue Service gave them an identification number that enabled them to apply for it at local Mitchell Bank, which was happy to take their business. "We thought we would never buy a home, because of our illegal status," said Araceli Garcia. Yeah, I'll bet, and you are but one illegal family of thousands taking advantage of this sweet little benefit.
I don't know, call me dense, but would someone please take the time to explain just what the Hell is going on here? We have federal statutes mandating you can't be here illegally yet in practice, federal policy is saying that if you're here, we're going to cater to you. And of course, any bank worth its shareholder's salt will not turn down any chance to parley a loan into profit -- and I don't blame them at all.
Calling All Hairballs: Illegal immigrants are felony lawbreakers and no federal, state, or local agency should be in the business of rewarding lawbreakers:
Under Title 8 Section 1325 of the U.S. Code, "Improper Entry by Alien," any citizen of any country other than the United States who: Enters or attempts to enter the United States at any time or place other than as designated by immigration officers; or Eludes examination or inspection by immigration officers; or Attempts to enter or obtains entry to the United States by a willfully false or misleading representation or the willful concealment of a material fact; has committed a federal crime. The penalties? Violations are punishable by criminal fines and imprisonment for up to six months. Repeat offenses can bring up to two years in prison. Additional civil fines may be imposed at the discretion of immigration judges, but civil fines do not negate the criminal sanctions or nature of the offense.
Apologists for illegal immigration like to paint it as a victimless crime. But in fact, illegal immigration causes substantial harm to American citizens and legal immigrants, particularly those in the most vulnerable sectors of our population -- the poor, minorities, and children. And those same whining apologists never talk about all of the illegals who have and will continue to sneak into this great nation to do us harm. But that's a post for another day.
The Wall Street investment firm Bear Stearns has published a new report, "The Underground Labor Force is Rising to the Surface" which claims that our government vastly underestimates the size and taxpayer costs of illegal immigration. Bear Stearns analysts assert that: The illegal alien population of the U.S. is about 20 million - roughly the population of New York State; There are between 12 and 15 million jobs in the U.S. currently held by illegal aliens, or about 8 percent of the work force; and Between 4 and 6 million jobs have shifted to the underground economy since 1990 -- and not "jobs Americans won't do, but rather jobs Americans used to do."
Illegal immigrants are, by statute, criminals . . . and we reward them. I dare any of you citizens to flagrantly break any law, even a misdemeanor, and see what happens.
