Stop the NCAA's #@&!#$ diversity madness
Political correctness. Multiculturalism. Ethnodiversity. Heritage sensitivity. Use any trendy label you wish -- we are being incrementally forced toward Orwellian-like utopian mediocrity by radical special interest groups and an out-of-control, left-wing judiciary bent on societal engineering.
"But B2, B2" you frantically ask, "What the Hell are you ranting about now?" What am I ranting about? OF WHAT AM I RANTING? Read on.
Diversified insanity
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has targeted schools across the nation that use American Indian mascots or nicknames and will ban their teams from hosting post-season tournaments. If they play in a post-season tournament, they won't be able to wear uniforms that feature the nickname or logo. No big deal? Neither was the incremental destruction of the Second and Fourth Amendments until we woke up -- but of course we awakened too late to restore the rights that were stolen.
This NCAA edict affects schools such as Florida State University (FSU), its proud Seminole mascot Chief Osceola, and the warrior logo. The new policy will have a broad effect at Florida State, a sports powerhouse in football, that was also host to an NCAA men's basketball regional in 1994, a women's regional in 2003, the women's tennis championships in 1996, the women's soccer tournament in 2001, '02 and '03 and the baseball tournament 23 times since 1980.
This latest imperious NCAA command is just another in a series of baby steps over the last three decades (the aforementioned incrementalism that always seems to sneak up on us until it is too late to do anything about it) that have cowed institutions of higher learning such as Syracuse, Stanford, Dartmouth, St. John's, and Marquette. Will FSU meekly succumb to the insanity as have other limp-wristed, weenie schools?
Stand your ground
Now as a Miami Hurricanes fan I have absolutely no love for FSU, but I do respect the school and its ballsy Chief (pun intended) Administrator. Here's FSU President T.K. Wetherell's response to the NCAA deeming FSU's use of the Seminole name and symbols as "hostile or abusive," despite the recent formal endorsement by and avid support of the Seminole Tribe of Florida for their use:
"Florida State University is stunned at the complete lack of appreciation for cultural diversity shown by the National Collegiate Athletic Association's executive committee, which announced today a policy banning schools using Native American names and symbols from hosting NCAA championship events. That the NCAA would now label our close bond with the Seminole Tribe of Florida as culturally "hostile and abusive" is both outrageous and insulting."
Wetherell added, "On June 17, the Tribal Council of the Seminole Tribe of Florida spoke unequivocally of its support for Florida State University in its use of the Seminole name and related symbols. Accordingly, I intend to pursue all legal avenues to ensure that this unacceptable decision is overturned, and that this university will forever be associated with the 'unconquered' spirit of the Seminole Tribe of Florida."
Seminole Nation agrees
Now does that sound like capitulation? Here's what the Seminole Tribe of Florida resolved: "The Tribal Council's resolution reads, in part, that the 'Seminole Tribe of Florida has an established relationship with Florida State University, which includes its permission to use the name, Seminole, as well as various Seminole symbols and images, such as Chief Osceola, for educational purposes and the Seminole Tribe of Florida wishes to go on record that it has not opposed, and, in fact, supports the continued use of the name Seminole.'" The resolution also supports the use of the Seminole head logo, which is endorsed by the university. So? So this:
Let Ol' B2 make this clear enough so that even the NCAA perfumed princes and princesses, as well as the rest of you condescending, holier-than-thou, pointy-headed, pencil-necked, Hillary-loving, kum-bay-yah-singing, Chardonnay-sipping, America-hating, radical socialist elites understand: If the Seminole Tribe of Florida doesn't mind, neither should you, so just pipe down.
