It's presidential prerogative, you dolts!

Get ready. Here comes the whining. Here come the tantrums. Here comes the vitriol. The Party of No, the Party of Hate, the Obstructionist Party, the Filibuster Party, the No-Ideas Party -- you used to know it as the Democratic Party -- is incensed because President Bush appointed John Bolton as the United States ambassador to the United Nations while Congress is in recess.

Why would the president do this? I'll tell you why. Presidents since George Washington have made appointments during congressional recesses to fill positions in the executive and judicial branches. Under the Constitution, the president can make temporary appointments while the Senate is in recess, without Senate approval. The appointment lasts through the end of the following one-year session of Congress. This means that Bolton's appointment will be in effect until early 2007 . . . and the Left is outraged.

But guess what? The socialists' hero, Bill Clinton, used this power to name 140 recess appointments over his two terms -- yet no leftist weenie raised one iota of concern, one sniff of outrage. In fact, presidents since George Washington have regularly used this presidential power so that the needs of government are fulfilled.

So you have to ask yourself one important question. Why did Bolton require a recess appointment? I'm glad you asked: Because the radical leftists that have taken over the democratic Senate leadership filibustered and thus blocked his nomination for nearly six months. Six months!

President Bush tried to play fairly, he tried to get Bolton's name before the full Senate for an up-or-down vote as required by the Constitution, but the radicals wouldn't allow it because Bolton is not a kum-bay-yah-singing United Nations boot licker, and because he represents President Bush, whom they loathe.

The Left knew that Bolton had the Senate votes to be approved so they filibustered just to obstruct President Bush -- which naturally obstructs the business of America. Fortunately, this president is one tough cookie and is not afraid to stand by his convictions or his quality people.

John Bolton has been appointed and it is a good thing for America.
