Play ball, but mind the weather

My second-favorite sport will begin its season soon and as happens every Spring, hope is once again rekindled that my underdog Marlins can make it to and win the World Series. I introduced my Canadian wife to watching well-played baseball live and she fell in love. She became enamored with the smell of the grass, crack of the bat, talking with the players, a hot dog and a beer, and chatting with fellow fans about the events on the field. She reveled in the intimacy of it all. What a great way to enjoy a sunny afternoon and celebrate living in this wonderful land of ours.

And speaking of sunny afternoons, time is ticking down to the advent of hurricane season beginning 1 June. After taking direct hits from Hurricanes Frances and Jeanne last year as well as glancing blows from Hurricanes Charley and Ivan, residents of Little Martin have already begun to fry the telephone lines to my agency. Even after all these months, we are still dealing with the damage from those storms and people are, well...anxious. Latest models indicate that this year will be very storm-intensive, so here's hoping that when they form, they visit someplace else. Seems to me that we have fulfilled our quota of destruction for the next few years.
