Hurricane Jeanne

by BD Pisani - 2004 sep 30

My county, Little Martin, has suddenly become a hurricane magnet. The sixth tropical cyclone to directly affect the southeastern United States just went by my door.

Jeanne made landfall on the east coast of my county (the coast is six miles from my house) early on September 26. The storm eye crossed the coast at the southern end of Hutchinson Island, just east of Stuart. Maximum winds around the eye at landfall were estimated at 110 to 120 mph, making it a Category 2-Category 3 Hurricane.

B2's rat-infested, bug-infested hovel had no significant damage, but did again suffer with interior flooding. My beautiful county, however, was trashed.

Just like with Hurricane Frances, I can't write now because recovery is underway, but I can tell you this: All of us here in Little Martin are exhausted, and are suffering from the adverse effects of two direct hits within a few weeks of one another.
