A few little words
It is 4:40 a.m. and all is quiet, save for the tick of the kitchen clock and gentle whir of my new tower computer built by Larry. I find that my mind takes a stroll of its own accord during this quiet time, reflecting upon one topic before leaping to the next. I happened to remember words I put to paper toward the end of 1999, a time of great personal anguish. Really nothing more than a string of common words I read somewhere, written by an unknown author. For a short while, they lost their meaning when I lost my wife and then myself. But when I first read them, they struck me as profound; they still do.
I thought I would share them today because I do my best to include them in my life. I cannot claim success at heeding the author's advice every day, but I try. Perhaps they will affect you as well:
- - Think freely, Practice patience, Smile often, Savor special moments.
- - Make new friends, Rediscover old ones, Tell those whom you love that you do.
- - Think responsibly, Feel deeply, Do no harm, Forgive those who hurt you.
- - Keep a promise, Take a chance, Try something new, Reach out.
- - Have good ideas, Make some mistakes, Learn from them, Sometimes be crazy.
- - Count your blessings, Observe miracles, Help them happen, Help others.
- - View a sunrise, Listen to the rain, Look for rainbows, Gaze at the stars.
- - Laugh heartily, Spread joy, Reminisce, Give, Trust, Give in.
- - Slow down, Let someone in, Be soft sometimes.
- - Hope, Grow, Work hard, Be wise, Try to understand, Cry when you need to.
- - Trust life, Have faith, Enjoy wonder, Comfort a friend.
- - Believe in yourself.
